One JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC/HEIF up to 5 MiB · up to 100 MP

The file is processed on the server. We do not retain the file or report for later access; temporary files are removed after processing.

Metadata can be changed or removed. It does not prove authenticity, that a file is unchanged, its capture location or a screenshot’s origin. Image pixels are not inspected.

How to inspect a photo’s metadata

  1. Choose the original file

Use JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC/HEIF up to 5 MiB and 100 MP. Files downloaded from messaging apps or social networks may contain less metadata than the original.

  2. Run the inspection

The service reads supported properties of the primary image. It does not recognize image content or edit the file.

  3. Review sources and save the report

Read the source values, explanations and coverage. Copy the report or download JSON. Check for GPS coordinates before sharing it.

What you can find in photo metadata

Capture and modification dates

DateTimeOriginal, DateTimeDigitized and DateTime contain recorded dates. A missing timezone is not assumed to mean UTC.

Camera, phone and software

Make, Model, Software and other supported fields show the device and application recorded in the file.

GPS coordinates

When valid coordinates are recorded, the report shows latitude, longitude and available altitude. These are file properties, not proof of the capture location.

Image properties and sources

Inspect the format, dimensions, color mode, EXIF, supported XMP and PNG text fields. Truncated values and incomplete analysis are marked explicitly.

Can metadata show whether a photo was edited?

Editing software or different dates sometimes remain in metadata. These can help a manual review, but ordinary exports can leave them too. Metadata can be changed or removed. This tool does not inspect pixels or prove that a photo is authentic or unchanged.

Why screenshots often have no EXIF

A screenshot may contain only its dimensions and format. No camera was involved, so a camera model or capture date may be absent. Messaging apps can also remove properties. Missing EXIF does not establish forgery.

Photo metadata questions

Which formats are supported?

JPEG/JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC/HEIF. For a container with multiple images, only the primary image is inspected; the report explicitly shows this limitation.

Can I inspect HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes. HEIC/HEIF is supported. Device, dates and GPS are shown when present in supported fields of the source file.

Can I identify a device from a screenshot alone?

You can inspect the information recorded in the file. Dimensions or missing EXIF do not reliably identify the device or application.

Are photos and GPS coordinates stored?

The free form does not retain the file or report. Temporary files are removed after analysis. Do not share a JSON report if you want to keep any coordinates in it private.

How do I inspect files automatically?

Integrate the Kvitera API. Reports from authenticated API and workspace requests are saved in your company’s history for 30 days; source images are not retained.

Need metadata inspection in your system?

Use the API for structured reports on photos, screenshots and PDFs. Your team can access inspection history in the workspace.
